Mr. Ferguson began his teaching career in the spring of 1989 at Bloomington High School, Illinois, where he taught until 1992. He then became choral director at Oswego High School and Traughber Jr. High until 1996. Mr. Ferguson took a hiatus from public school education, working as a music & arts director in various churches and communities. During that time, Mr. Ferguson also wrote the music for the VeggieTales VBS program in 2001, all the while continuing to work in other artistic mediums in the visual arts and video editing.

In 2012, Mr. Ferguson returned to the classroom, serving as music director at Rosary High School, Aurora, Illinois. During his short tenure, he was a finalist for Educator of the Year in the Rockford Diocese. He also worked at Young Naperville Singers as founding director of the Young Men’s Chorus (now called "Canto Vivo"). In the summer of 2013, he accepted his current position as Choral Director at Scullen Middle School, Naperville Illinois, where he directs 6 curricular chorus classes, Honors Chorus, two extra-curricular choirs, and is musical co-director. Mr. Ferguson also teaches a multi-needs drum circle weekly at Scullen. He has served as ILMEA Choral Division Chair at both high school and middle school levels over the past 3 decades since he started teaching.

Mr. Ferguson and his wife, Karen, a fellow educator, have been married 34 years this past summer, and they have 3 children: Laura, a graphic designer for the City of Beverly Hills, CA; Kevin, a doctoral candidate in Mechanical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University; and Rachel, a 4th-year student in Bio/pre-med at UIC.

After 16 wonderful years, the Fergusons sadly said goodbye to their beloved dog Jax, who, rumor had it, could actually fly (see photo below).  No plans for another dog are in place, but you never know... ;)
